Conjunctivitis: What Is Pink Eye?
Conjunctivitis (often called plnk eye) is inflammation of the thin transparent layer that covers the white part of the eye (sclera). The most common type is viral in origin and is often associated with the common cold. There is no treatment. Antibiotics do not work.
If there is discomfort with the pink eye, and the pain becomes worse, see your ophthalmologist (eye doctor), as there may be involvement of the cornea (front clear part of the eye), which can be much more serious. Besides infectious and allergic causes, of course foreign body or toxic substance in the eye will also cause conjunctivitis.
